Job Description
Summary:
Join our transportation team as a Short Haul Driver, where you’ll safely and efficiently transport product between company facilities, customers, and distribution locations. In this role, you’ll operate a tractor-trailer on assigned routes while supporting drop-and-hook and live load/unload operations. You’ll be expected to follow all DOT regulations and company policies while maintaining a high level of professionalism as a representative of the Perdue Farms brand. Schedule flexibility is essential, as routes, locations, or customers may change to meet business needs.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Safely maneuver and transport truckloads of product and materials to plants, customers, and distributors as assigned
  • Perform drop-and-hook operations and equipment interchanges, including live loading and unloading when required
  • Comply with all DOT requirements, including hours of service, electronic logging (ELD), vehicle inspections, load inspections, and load securement
  • Operate tractor-trailer equipment in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations and company safety policies
  • Utilize onboard safety features, vehicle tracking systems, and logging tools efficiently and accurately
  • Complete and submit all required documentation, including manifests, bills of lading,
  • Verify seal integrity and ensure accurate case counts and product condition at pickup and delivery locations
  • Transport loads outside of typical routes, schedules, or customer assignments as needed to support operational demands

Required:
  • Valid Class A CDL license
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two (2) years of over-the-road tractor-trailer driving experience (refrigerated trailer experience preferred)

Preferred:
  • Strong communication and customer service skills

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
 
  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods within DOT regulations
  • Ability to lift and move boxes weighing up to 40 lbs
  • Ability to sleep while another driver operates the vehicle, when applicable
  • Tolerance for vibration, road conditions, fuel and oil exposure, noise, and extreme temperatures (0–100°F)
  • Willingness to travel to customer, distributor, and plant locations, including remote sites
